feeding zoas

6 posts in this topic

I'm new to the hobby and have a bunch of different zoas. I've asked several people and received several different opinions. Do zoas need supplemental feeding? They seem to be doing relatively well (except the one the asterina attacked) with T5 lighting and moderate flow.  What are thoughts behind Coral Frenzy, Cyclop-eeze and reef-roids? Anything else people have experience with particularly for zoanthid growth.

I've never been a heavy feeder of any kind of coral food but if you can keep your water parameters in check it can't hurt to add a little food.

I've never seen a zoanthid or palythoa (except for a P. grandis) eat any food offered.

I'm not sure if it's a feeding response or what but I've seen zoas close up when I feed certain foods.

My zoa's eat mysis shrimp and pellet food. I've seen them catch both. I don't directly feed them though, I just pour all the food in the tank and most of the time they catch some food.
